For the third edition of the New Year´s Lecture, the Helmholtz Graduate School for Macromolecular Bioscience was honoured to welcome Prof. Stoyan Smoukov to present. Prof. Smoukov is the head of the department of Materials Science & Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge and since 2017 Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering and Materials Science of the Queen Mary University of London. During the lecture, Prof. Smoukov presented approaches creating autonomous material robotics and polymers inspired by the multi-functionality and dynamics of living organisms. A round-table discussion with Prof. Smoukov enabled the PhD students from the Graduate School MacroBio an extensive discussion about the newest findings in science as well as career development and academic networking.
